“don't be evil”

(or: "I love Google, but does Google love me?")

about
I google; you google; we all google. In the last several years, Google has anchored itself into our lives. Far beyond just the countless tangible services it provides--search, email, maps, etc.--Google has subtly and startlingly altered our day to day interactions on the psychological as well as social scale. The Google search bar preempts your intended text, page rankings on Google imply a heirarchy of informational and social value, and Google has the sole power to block sites that is believes to be "malicious" altogether.

Google's prowess lies in its "bots", scripts that crawl the web gathering information. So, I created this image representing Google in its true form--a boundless robot army, albeit a cheerful and user-friendly seeming one.
technical details
This piece was ironically, and fittingly created with code. ;D

I handpainted a group of toy robots. After photographing and Photoshopping, individual photos were imported into a Processing program that created the layout in 3-D space.

The original was rendered as a high-resolution 40"X30" print.
