Shown at the 2007 UCLA FAST student fashion show, to an audience of 1,000 people...Our small collection of mens' and womens' wear reflected our background from costume design fused with a sensibility for distinctive modern style. The pieces make references to various historic time periods, but are executed in familiar materials of denim, cotton, jersey, couderoy, etc. Emphasis was given to mixing of textures and detail work in applique, hand-painting, over-stitching, hand-sewing, and distressing.
We each completed 4 pieces. Details of my 4 designs follow:
Pirate-inspired Denim Jacket. (worn with map-embellished kakhis, not shown.) Lined with green striped cotton print. Hand-distressed.
Black and white weave Grecian inspired dress. Hand-sewn. White cotton gauze with black polyester edging.. Hand-painted bottom edges.
High-collared bird motif couderoy jacket. Hand painted birds print with over-stitching and white micro-suede applique. Print wraps around jacket seamlessly. Lined in grey plaid.
Silver off-shoulder princess gown. Synthetic blend fabric gives an industrial look to a classic 1950's cut. Full corset and petticoat give shape.
